A new song out of Minneapolis and the Singing Resistance movement. This one by Annie Schlaefer, the same songwriter behind “We Belong to Them,” which I shared as one of the first songs in this project. Pardon the sound quality, which isn’t as good when I record on Substack Live. I’ll keep tweaking and learning but hopefully it gets the point / song across!
As far as I can tell, this song was written for the action this past weekend where 2000 Minnesotans walked through the city singing (this song and others) until they reached the hotel where many of the ICE are staying and sang this to them.. The song invites the humanity in each of the officers to defect and join the movement to love and protect each other rather than divide and terrorize.
We walk the same ground / But we’ve been torn apart
Put down your weapons / Come sing your part!
Go support Annie Schlaefer on Patreon if you can!
And Singing Resistance, the movement behind so much of the inspiring song organizing, just launched a tool kit, song book, and a virtual training THIS SUNDAY to help folks organize Singing Resistance in their city.
